Freshii Juice Cleanse – Day 1


It is no secret that I like to frequent Freshii for my lunchtime meals. They offer healthy, custom salads, rice/noodle/quinoa bowls, wraps, and soups loaded with vegetables. Their website allows you to order online for pick up which saves you from standing around their busy, small store while they make your food. And their service is much better than other fast food places.

Recently, they launched their Freshii juice cleanse so I figured I’d give it a try. There are three options to choose from:

  • the Quickie: 1-day cleanse – $30 includes 4 juices and a salad
  • the Determined: 3-day cleanse – $80 includes 12 juices and 3 salads
  • the Focused: 5-day cleanse – $120 includes 20 juices and 5 salads

I decided to do the 3-day cleanse.

Unfortunately, I had an appointment this morning so I didn’t get to Freshii until around 11:00am. I picked up a days worth of juices and a salad. The juices were numbered so at least I knew what order I was supposed to drink them in but there were no other instructions. I looked for other more information (such as when I’m supposed to eat the salad) on their website but couldn’t find any.

Green Energy Juice – apple, cucumber, kale, lemon, carrot, romaine, and spinach

I drank the first juice right after I picked up my order, around 11:00am. It looked pretty nasty but definitely tasted alright. I’m not big into vegetable juice but I generally find the green veggie juice (mixed with fruit) isn’t so bad. I use spinach, or other leafy greens, a lot in my smoothies and they seem to go well with citrus flavours. I cannot stand tomato juice (I’d probably barf if I smelled it) so I was happy to find out that none of these juices contain it.

Metaboost Salad – field greens and spinach, kale, mangoes, carrots, edamame, almonds, goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette dressing

Unsure when to eat the salad, I decided to have it for lunch around noon. I typically don’t eat dairy but I threw all caution to the wind and enjoyed the goat cheese! I was later told that the salad is meant to be eaten for dinner, after all the juices .. whoops! Not sure if this really matters. I had done another whole foods cleanse which explained that it was better to eat any solid food during the middle of the day.

Carrot Zinger – carrot, ginger, cucumber and green apple

I sipped the second juice from 1:00 to 2:00pm. It looked intimidating but wasn’t too bad. I’ve had the carrot/apple combination before and they go quite well together. I could taste a hint of ginger but cucumber’s subtle flavour was overpowered by the other ingredients.

Mighty Detox Juice – pineapple, ginger, apple, celery, and cucumber

The third juice had a bit of a zing to it! Pineapple is one of my favourite fruits so I really enjoyed this one’s kick! I drank it from 4:00 to 5:00pm before heading home from work. At this point, I felt pretty good but probably due to having the salad for lunch. If I wait to eat the other salad until tomorrow evening (I kind of like eating it for lunch, plus I don’t have to pack it home with me), it’ll be a long time to go without solid food …

Red Power Juice – beet, carrot, ginger, lemon

I had to carry this one home with me on the SkyTrain. To make things worse it was extra busy due to a “problem train” and the cup is pretty flimsy. Tomorrow I plan to bring a travel mug. I drank the Red Power Juice after I got home around 6:00pm. It is the most vegetable-y of the juices and has the very earthy beet taste that I don’t love but can tolerate.

The hardest part so far has been coming home from work and not raiding the cupboards and fridge. I did feel a bit more tired than usual but that’s probably because I cut out caffeine. All things considered, I’d say it went well.
